The Recording Studio

All of the music on this site has been recorded and mixed in the project studio. A modest collection of recording equipment is used to sequence, orchestrate, record, and mix the music . Though the physical layout and list of equipment changes frequently over time, the bottom line in the studio has always been the sound.

The newest addition to the list of studio equipment are the Tapco S-5 Studio Monitors.

Secondary Studio

The primary recording studio serves a useful purpose when it comes to recording, mixing, mastering, and finalizing music. But what about composing music? Sometimes, inspiration doesn't easily reside within the same space as the recording studio. It's so easy to get bogged down in the details - getting the volume level just right, editing a part 30 times until it's perfect, and spending far too much time and energy on what is ultimately nothing more than a rough draft.

That's where the secondary studio comes into play. The laptop computer, running Sibelius, is synced via MIDI to the primary studio PC in the adjacent room. The MIDI data triggers samples in Gigastudio, which are then transmitted through a digital audio cable into the Edirol monitor speakers back in the secondary studio. In this way, neither computer is overloaded by trying to run both Sibelius and Gigastudio, and a larger sample library can be utilized to provide a much more realistic playback from Sibelius. Additionally, any composition work done in the secondary studio does not require expended time or resources on minor details of the music.
