Intersex Fish by Cecelia
Mason The response to a recent fish kill in the South
Branch of the Potomac has been rapid due to an ongoing
state and federal government study. Scientists at the US
Geological Survey Science Center in Jefferson County
have been working with state agencies to learn why male
bass have eggs in their sex organs - a condition called
"intersex." It indicates estrogen-like substances are
polluting the waters. On-set interview: Bret
Preston of WV DNR |
Electronic Music By Chuck
Kleine Practically every computer made today comes with
the ability to play MIDI files, and can connect to other
MIDI gear. Professionals and amateurs alike can compose,
arrange, and record original music, or use the computer
to learn about music or how to play an instrument.
Most film and TV scores, as well as popular recorded
music is written and performed using electronic
keyboards and other MIDI-equipped musical
instruments. Many church organs are now equipped
with this equipment. It allows the church
musician to play, compose, arrange and record music.

Richwood's
Annual "Past-80" Party By Suzanne Higgins More
than 100 native West Virginians, aged 80 and beyond,
gathered in June at the Richwood High School gymnasium
for music, games, and a turkey dinner with all the
trimmings. All wore their nametags, proudly displaying
their age. It’s an annual party in this Nicholas County
community - a tradition begun 50 years ago by Jim
Comstock, the renowned editor of The West Virginia
Hillbilly newspaper. Comstock had a favorite saying,
“flowers for the living,” meaning: "celebrate our elders
while they’re still here." And so they come, from all
over, with so many
stories. | | |
