April 13, 2008 - Minnette Meador, a multi-published author, has released a promotional video for her new book "The Centurian and The Queen" using an excerpt from The Armageddon Overtures for the soundtrack. Be sure to check out her website and blog for more information.
A lack of compositional training doesn't show in Carroll's sweeping modern classical works, which bear that most essential symphonic quality: sheer courage. A film scorer's feel for drama and a classicist's sense of balance shine through the brazen timpani runs and whirling string movements.

"Ever wonder what the end of the world feels like? Thanks to Stephan Carroll, you don't have to wait until 2012 to find out. The songwriter has explored the range of emotions mankind will go through as the end of time unfolds. In "The Armageddon Overtures" -- a full orchestra and choir suite -- feelings of hope, sorrow, anger, and euphoria form the soundtrack of the last day on earth. The music is accessible and deeply touching; it simultaneously captures the glory of the human race and its vulnerability.
With kind permission, we are offering the first part of the suite - "Dawn/Sunrise (Hope)." Carroll has made the entire orchestral score available for download as well. Oh, and fans of Nine Inch Nails might be pleasantly surprised... "

October 20, 2007 - NEW Audio Clip: Sunset Cue from "VII. Sunset/Twilight" - The Armageddon Overtures - Although work has been going slowly on the project in recent weeks, I am pleased to report I’ve been making some substantial progress here lately. I’ve decided to post a sneak peak at what I’ve done so far. It’s a brief cue from the 7th movement, “Sunset/Twilight.” This the actual moment of the sunset - the final sunset on earth - a bombastic fanfare following a lengthy suspenseful crescendo. You may notice the inclusion of the pipe organ with full stops. I definately think I made the right choice in adding it to this piece! The ending of this clip has been abreviated due to problems with Sibelius’ playback feature - too many notes taking up too much polyphony. Keep in mind that what you are hearing is only my own “rough draft” of this piece. It is playing directly out of Sibelius into Gigastudio via MIDI. I have not done any of the usual mixing/editing/refining that I usually do with my music. When I am finished scoring the project in Sibelius, I will go into Gigastudio and manually record each track one-by-one without a metronome or click track - I feel it will add to the realism of the recording. At that point, I’ll probably check myself into a mental hospital for a few years to recover!
April 25, 2007 - Stephan entered this year's Young Film Composers Competition in February 2007. He was contacted on Thursday evening, April 12 by Mark Northam. There were over 800 entries in this year's contest, and Stephan's was chosen in the top 20!
The following excerpt is from the online Film Music Weekly magazine. The magazine can be viewed in its entirety here. The video clip scored by Stephan can be viewed below this article. Unfortunately, Stephan did not make it to the top 10 semifinalists this year, but he will be entering the contest again next year.
